Canon ZR850

This newly released Canon ZR850 is the top model in Canon’s Mini DV line this 2007. Although there’s not much difference when compared to other Canon camcorders in the past this Camcorder is making it’s way to putting more of the output to DVD like other hard dive-based models. This Canon ZR850 showcases a palm-friendly design with an amazing and helpful zoom of 25x to 35x. Canon made it sure that users will be delighted with the color results including the resolution.

What is also very attractive with the physical design of this ZR850 is that all controls are easily reachable by the thumb. So there is no excuse in using both hands just to record special events. The menu is very easy to learn with just one press of the function button, all the options will appear. You can also have the digital effects only digital still cameras have before.

It also lets you record videos in autopilot with a program mode that lets you choose among the four white balance settings, eight autoexposure presets, digital effects and three image effects.

You have to just go one layer deep once you are on the setup menu to do the following:

  • choose one of the six shutter speeds;
  • adjust zoom speed;
  • switch between 16:9 and 4:3 recording;
  • turn on or off the digital zoom;
  • turn on or off the automatic slow shutter; and
  • turn on and off the electronic image stabilization.

The canon ZR850 listed price ranges from as low as $278.00 by dbuys.com to as much as $319.00 from Beach Camera and Buydig.com.

    I’m glad that you guys are giving this camera the thumbs up! I’ve read reviews on other websites that say that there is no microphone input and you can’t transfer analog to DV. It’s obvious that these guys didn’t read the manual. The AV out port also serves as the mic/audio/video in port when the camera is operating in a certain mode. I love it.
