Sony introduces the world’s first consumer 1080i high definition camcorder, the Sony Handycam® HDR-FX1. A revolution in form and function, the HDR-FX1 allows you to play and record interlaced high definition video at resolutions up to 1440 x 1080 for professional quality video with vivid colors and striking detail. It even offers the ability to switch to standard DV recording and playback as the situation warrants
Hexus.net reviews the Sony HDR-FX1 and writes - “The Sony HDR-FX1E is going to change the world. For decades, we’ve become used to seeing global events at a few hundred lines of resolution – unless we’re lucky enough to be there in person. It’s been a colourful view, but has left a lot to be desired in terms of detail. Now the end is nigh for a format that has been around since the 1950s. High definition has finally arrived in Europe, and Sony’s HDR-FX1E is in the vanguard.”
CNET Reviews has a review of the Sony HDR-FX1 and gives it a rating of 8.6 (excellent) and it also has an average 8.1 (excellent) user rating. They write - “Sony’s first HDV camera, the HDR-FX1, may turn out to do for high-definition video what the company’s VX1000 did for standard-definition video back in 1995–and with a list price of $3,700, it actually costs less! What made the VX1000 so significant was its realization of the awesome potential of DV, which, for the first time, enabled people of modest means to produce video of extremely high quality.
JVC introduced the first cameras to incorporate the HDV standard, a prosumer format that records high-definition video to MiniDV cassettes. Unfortunately, with their single-chip imagers and limited controls, both the GR-HD1 and its slightly more professional sibling, the JY-HD10, did not do full justice to the new format.”
CamcorderInfo.com has reviewed the Sony HDR-FX1 HDV and writes - “Sony’s HDR-FX1 is a great camcorder. Sony has done a wonderful job of giving great manual control, great handling, and what looks like outstanding video and low light performance. I’m really excited to start working in HD, with its great level of detail, and I think the HDR-FX1 might be that killer camcorder to deliver HD to the masses. Many have and will complain about its lack of 24P, but I think the addition of the quality Cineframe24 mode should satisfy the needs of most people who go for that film look. This camcorder was very well engineered, with great manual control placement. I really like the focus ring, zoom ring, and all the preset buttons.”
